The Wheeler Family's
House Construction - August 16th, 2006
The Lift
The construction crew moving the fiber board over to the roof with the lift.
Front Roof
The lift provides a platform to stand on with the fiber board you need right next to you so it's like the roof starts at ground level - instead of one or two stories up.
Our "Backyard"
The Woodland Meadows Trail. This trail border hardwood forest and praire. Even if you can't see the song birds you can hear them as you hike down this trail as this transition zone is their favorite habitat.
Taking a Picture
Hannah taking a picture from the Wetland Trail. Although their are many wetlands in the park the wetland trail travels on raised ground through the largest whose marshes, meandering rivers, interspered ponds and lakes stretch far to your left and right.
Butterfly
Butterflies are particularly active along the wetlands and making it across the trail without stopping to take a picture of at least one is almost impossible.
The St. Croix
We hiked several trails through O' Brien until we came to the St. Croix. Then we took off our shoes and just let our feet rest in the cool water.
Finding Frogs
There are frogs hiding everywhere along the river as well as in every pond and lake and creek. Nate has mastered the art of 'frog location' peeking under rockes and in grasses to discover where they're hiding.
Frog on a Rock
This little fellow is sitting on a rock contentedly enjoying his view of the St. Croix river... or waiting for bugs.
Beaver Breakfast
A stump form a tree a beaver fell by the river. If you look closely you can see the rough surface and teeth marks that show this was the work of a beaver. There's many stumps like this one by the Beaver Lodge Trail.
St. Croix Silhouttes
Looking from the Riverside Trail through the edge of the forest off the bluffs and upon the river and far bank.
Done for the Day
When Hannah Nate and I arrived back after our walk they had finished up construction for the day and the roof trusses were almost covered.
Our House
A view of the house from our trail leading into O' Brien State Park.
